Well then, The Lost Plot ‘Serendipity’ Mornington Peninsula Sparkling (Chardonnay/Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier) 2004 is by far and away one of THE best Sparkling wines that has past this wine sellers laughing gear let me just tell you.
The wine then: the nose is classic aged sparkling wine – gorgeous yeasty autolysis with bready, brioche tones on the full-front. The palate is a mix of so much ACENESS in lemon curd, brioche, supple bead and weirdly but conversely ace-ly at the same time, a sort of salt and vinegar chip vibe. Just so good.
As Molly used to say, ‘Do yourself a favour and buy this!!!!’. And at $54 why the bloody hell not; tis the season after all.
The days are getting thinner, and hotter, so the wine giving season is hot-to-trot and on days like today – 33˚C currently in downtown Brunswick East – something like the Frankland Estate ‘Isolation Ridge’ Great Southern Riesling 2019 should be very high in youse wonderful people minds.
The wine: the minerality on the nose is off the charts!!!! Now before I go any further there should be a disclaimer; I believe in my personal and professional opinion that Great Southern in WA is the best Riesling growing region in Australia. People may disagree with me. I don’t care. The wine again. Chalk, limestone, tart cumquat, white flowers on the nose. The mouth is more of the same with a more pure, linear tone that finishes with lip smacking acid and chalky tannins.
If you want to play Marco Polo on a day like today, then sing this wines name out and head straight down here. Be it in the Christmas stocking or in your glass late this arvo, this wine is worth every cent of the $44 in the fridge.
it’s not that long until the Fat Man shimmies down the chimney, but instead of a frosty tinnie of beer, how about a smokin’ hot glass of Shiraz?
The Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown ‘Indigo’ Beechworth Shiraz 2019 should be that glass of Shiraz!!!!!! Laced with a seductive nose of blackberry, spice, Chinese Master Stock and tilled earth, the wine follows in the mouth with gorgeous lines of more blackberry and Master Stock followed by very savoury white pepper tannins with plenty of length.
At just $38, this will please both Santa or whoever’s stocking this lands in.
