Christmas Countdown – Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc 2016

Oh the joys of Christmas. For me it’s the lead up that excites me; only 206 Days to go. The excitement is palpable I tell ya!!!

But sometimes you just cannot wait, and I doubt anyone could wait to crack this ripper on Christmas day to smash it down with a dozen or so freshly shucked oysters; Oh dear NO-NO-NO!!!! And that ripper would be the Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc 2016 which I recently tasted along with most of Benjamin’s 2016 Burgundies. This one for me was the highlight of the day. With fruit mostly sourced from Puligny-Montrachet, the wine on the nose offers lovely creamy notes followed by bright citrus and stonefruit; I picked up nectarine and tangarine. The palate has a quick whack of green apple followed by plenty of length with the citrus and stonefruit flavours dancing over my tongue.

Just a stunning wine. I seriously doubt that this will still be here, even more so that it is currently by the glass at $17 with the bottle price at $68. What a ripper indeed.

The Christmas Cowntdown is on – Camporsino Chianti DOCG Tuscany 2016

Is it ever too early to be thinking about what wine(s) will adorn the Christmas lunch table? No, I didn’t think so either. So with that sorted lets kick off our Christmas Wine countdown in May.

Lets start with the Camporsino Chianti DOCG Tuscany 2016 which is 100% Sangiovese. Gorgeous dark morello cherry and wet terracotta on the nose, the wine opens in the palate with a darker hit of cherry that is held together wonderfully – yes wonderfully – with mouth watering chewy tannins. What a ripping little number this one is. And the best thing is you do not have to wait for Christmas Day; you can come in today and swap it for $25. Mucho-fantastico stuff!!!!

and just so you know – there are 214 days until Christmas!!!

Ministry Of Clouds Clare Valley Riesling 2016

It’s going to be a sweaty day out there today. And for relief; drink this!!!!

The quite stunning, and in my eyes, one of the best value – and simply best, Rieslings I’ve seen come out of the Clare Valley – Ministry Of Clouds Clare Valley Riesling 2016. Big call you say? Well yes, it is a big call but what separates this Riesling from other Clare Rieslings is that it is not all about acid and citrus pith. This wine has a beautiful floral note on the nose that lingers and builds in to lovely bitter kumquat aromas. Lovely. The palette opens up with chalky minerality which blooms in to more delish kumquat that then finishes with a moorish bitter melon taste. Just super yum .

Drink with shallow-fried white bait and always $30

What I love about this song is it is so happy and abounds with hope, “The daily news asked her for the dope and she said man the dope is there’s still hop.” Isn’t that just ace!!!! And what about that Matador getting the girl at the end. Or did the girl get the Matador?

The wine then. The Eruption Cabernet Franc 2016 from the Yarra Valley. And yes, the label says it all. This is very much a nouveau style of wine that is just so smashable for our very hot summer; tart red fruit, peppercorn berries, chewy tannins. And very much worth a full  full-page ad in the trades to announce their arrival

#FridayWineOnMyMind – The Natural Wine Co Central Ranges Organic Shiraz 2015

Without dropping a huge cliché, but “Winter is coming”. Yep, today is the first real jumper weather day of the season and boy-oh-boy doesn’t it feel nice not to be sticky, hot and humid.nat red

To celebrate our first real Autumn day for 2016, all weekend we will be taking 10% of this belter of a Shiraz – The Natural Wine Co. Central Ranges Organic Shiraz 2015. And it’s only $15, so $13.50 all weekend. And it’s ORGANIC. Yet the most important thing is this wine tastes fantastic. Awesome dark fruit with hints of Chinese 5 spice on the nose, the wine  in the palate follows the lead from the nose with bright dark fruit and spice with an almost mocca/earthy line at the back. #TickityBooAce indeed and $13.50 all weekend
