The Boss and Wine - “Crush on you” from The River Album 1 and Cucu Verdejo 2015

Crush on you and Cucu Verdejo 2015 from Rueda Spain.

The Boss is out of control in love in Crush on you. Everywhere is turns he is bang-out-head-over-heels-in-love. It seems he will give it all up each time he catches something he just has to have. Bit like this wine; the Cucu Verdejo 2015 from Rueda Spain is layer-upon-layer of deliciousnessness….. ness. This comes fully loaded on the nose with such ace fresh parsley leaf and freshly cut fennel. The palate is full of the same bright notes on the palate with mouth watering acid and chalky white tannins.

Yep, the brain certainly takes a vacation with this gem….

#FestivalOfTheBeard - Fathers Day 2015

Fathers DayNo, it’s not a new Hipster Festival. Fathers Day is this Sunday September 6th so lets give him a pat on the back and say, “Here you go dad, Happy Fathers Day. You’re ACE. And sorry about the rug but…”

Now instead of the garden variety socks n’ jocks routine, how about some #TickitybooAce beer and wine and cognac and gin. Perhaps its the most popular 6ixer in the fridge - the Melways 6A - A mixed 6 pack of Melbourne craft beer. Perhaps it could be the new and super awesome Emilio Valerio Grenache from Spain; lip smacking yumness is what it is!!! Next Tasting - “Indulge Me if you will”

happy-st-pNo, we will not be showing green beer, wine or cider. Nor will we be show casing labels dominated by green. Our next tasting theme is simple. St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick’s Day also happens to be my birthday so I will be highlighting some of my favourite flavours for the year thus far.

The flavours on show will, for better words, showcase what I believe to be not just achingly ripping wines, but achingly super-dooper smokin-hot value for money wines. Enough hyphens you think?

Now I know Saturday March 14th isn’t quite St. Patrick’s Day, but hey, who celebrates their birthday on just their actual birthdays. Saturday March 14th will be the start of my birthday week so swing on by the store from 2pm til 5ish, wear green if you must and help me celebrate some of the best flavours so far of 2015.

Between 5 Bells Heathcote Red Wine 2013

An interesting label you say? Yes it is. An interesting blend? Double Yes.

These guys do not do things by halves and certainly not weighed down by convention when it comes to blending. Nero d’Avola, Chardonnay, Riesling and Negreoamaro. Yep. All in one blend. And no SO2. That’s the funky stuff. But you know what? It really works and tastes awesomely tickityboo.

The nose starts with bright blueberry that slowly takes on a more tart complexity with blood orange citrus poking through. The palate starts pretty much the same way as the nose with clean and bright fruit up front which slowly evolves in to a dry garden herbage; think fennel.

All in all, a ripping wine. $37

Bindi Macedon Ranges ‘Dixon’ Pinot Noir 2013 & Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’

Seeing this is the first post on the store blog I think it should be on two of my favourite things; Bindi and Springsteens ‘Born to Run’.

This particular Bindi is the newly labeled ‘Dixon’ (nee Composition) and tells the story of Michael Dhillon’s Mum’s family and how they settled in Gisborne back in the 1800’s. But it is the wine that we are here about. Possibly the best Pinot Noir I have had from the top block at Bindi (with exception on a new wine being released later this year). To say this wine complex is quite simply lazy. born to runThis wine is complex but it’s the way it flows from nose to palate. A beautiful mix of tart red and black fruit, and spice and perfumedixon pn on the nose, the wine opens up in the palate with more spice - subtle cardamom primary - and mouth watering texture that belies it’s youthfulness. Beautiful.

So if the Bindi Macedon Ranges ‘Dixon’ Pinot Noir 2013 was an album it would be ‘Born to Run’. Like the wine, the album tells a story. It’s a love story, a drama, a fight for your-life-get-out-of-dodge page turner, ‘I want to die with you Wendy on the streets tonight in an ever lasting kiss.’

Seriously, how awesome is that. $54
